19 March, 7 pm. A special concert dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the birth of the legendary cellist and teacher Mstislav Rostropovich will take place at St Catherine's Church in Vilnius on 19 March. The evening will be a musical prelude to the Maestro's 100th birthday, which will be celebrated around the world next year. This concert is a tribute to the Maestro's memory and at the same time a meaningful glimpse into the future: the young performers, accompanied by the orchestra, are taking their first steps towards the big stage, as if passing on the baton of a living musical tradition into the next century. Under the leadership of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Modestas Barkauskas, the Orchestra consistently upholds the tradition of educating young performers by giving them the opportunity to perform on the big stage and to play alongside professionals.
The event is free of charge, but we kindly invite you to make a voluntary donation during the concert to help us purchase new instruments
